Montessori Miners

Posted on: Sep 20

On Wednesday, the Upper Elementary class went on a camping fieldtrip to the California State Gem Mine in Coalinga, CA.They went mining for benitoite! Benitoite is a rare blue crystal and was pronounced California's State Gem in 1985. The kids, parent volunteers and teachers packed up and hit the road in the afternoon and camped in holister the night before their mining excursion. They slept under the stars and in the morning headed to the gem mine for a fun filled day of messy, muddy mining.

Fieldtrips are always tied into what they are currently studying in the classroom. Each trip makes learning more exiting and keeps the children interested in their studies. There will be many more exciting field trips to come this year for the Upper Elementary!
